I think bloggers are now a very important source of information. I am fairly new to the world of blogs but I feel like I have been learning more now about both sides of the story. It seems that most news programs I watch and newspapers I have read have been very critical of the war and the President, and only when I started checking out blogs did I see some of the "other side". While I don't agree 100% with either side, it is very interesting and helpful hear both. With regards to bloggers vs. journalists. I think they can both be viewed the same way. There are certainly reputable trusted news outlets and bloggers who report the real news. You can also find terrible version of each that are only interested in furthhering their cause (not necissarily the truth). I think the key is to find some of each that you feel comfortable with and have proven over time that they are truthful in what they say. There will always be some bias depending on people's feelings, but if you know that going in you can take their bias' into account. I don't think bloggers are a replacement for journalists, but more of a complement to them, providing us with much needed information about the other side of the story. The more we know the better we are...
I agree. Blogs compliment the main stream media. Blogs quote from the deep resources of the main stream media. Blogs can give an alternate view to main stream media views. And blogs can be a balancing force for the main stream media. It was blogs that uncovered the fake national guard CBS document about President Bush.
This subject is intriguing to me. I have posted on it before (here and here), and will continue to make observation about the role and the impact of the blogosphere. Most intriguing to me is that many bloggers are just people like you and me. My blog has given me a soapbox to the world. Without my blog, my words don't travel beyond circle of friends (who are tired of hear my words). How will the world be different if everyone has a means to be heard?

I agree, bloggers have done a great service to people who are interested in finding out the truth, and not only the 'truth' pontificated by the so-called "professional journalists". One of the best things that blogs have done is shame the journalists into reporting the whole story and not just part of what they want us to know, or not to know for that matter. Do I sound cynical about the news media? You bet I am. They have thier own agenda and have been trying to form viewers and readers mind into thier way of thinking for many years now. With bloggers bringing out the full news, the major news sources have no choice but to report it also or end up with egg on thier face. Bloggers like all newspapers and t.v. news stations have to be rated or 'filtered' by the reader like Kevin mentioned. Contrary to popular belief, you and I CAN! form our own opinions on issues provided we are supplied with the truth. We do not need to be 'molded' by the media elite. Good topic Geoff.. :)
